Neighbourhood adds are postponed indefinitely. I will not be adding anyone for the time being.
Don't ask me to add you, because I won't. Mostly, it's just my personal posts that are locked. Uploads are open for all for the most part.
I will not add people I do not know. This means if I cannot see any entries and you don't comment, I can't see what you're like, and will not add you.
You can add me, I don't mind you adding me, just remember that I'm not going to add you back.

お誕生日おめでとう!!!
Don't worry about the concert not going perfectly to plan, because it was perfect since everyone made you happy to be there. May you continue your success and good health!
I don't know how to quit you. And I don't want to. You pull me out of my darkest depths with just a smile.
edit: i think this was the jacket the others got him - confirmed by Jen!
i don't know the exact price, but range is from €150 to €450
just to say hi and sorry for the delays =D
i've been sick and i haven't fully recovered yet... i still get tired pretty easily. i need to catch up, but it's going to take a while, i've missed out so much =(
i really need to buy that new computer ><
Everything single and PV
Smile OST
The Quiz Show OST
I had no idea this was going on at all.
This is what happens when I don't have the time to check everything ><
A substantial number of my links (and Arashian links*) are simply copy and pasted with not a credit in sight. I can't say the same for anyone else's, but I know my links when I see them. Not to mention the inconsistent formatting is a giveaway.
At least she's starting to go around notifying us, but geez read the entries first will ya? And for god's sake don't copy and paste links from locked entries or subbers.
Do I really need to put a note in every single one of my entries asking people not to do this? I hope not. And I can't believe I'm getting to the stage where I'm thinking "DAMN KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!" Metaphorically, of course.
*I know Arashian links are hard to get right now, but even I don't have access to them because I lost the password to the site when my computer had to be reformatted last year. I'm not sure I can get it back at all since my computer's died now. Really stupid mistake to make, I know. ><
No bashing in the comments please; I think I've ranted enough already. Complaining about fanbrats is fine though. Let it all out here. *breathes out*
my computer's died, so i'm working off my laptop now, which means i can't download and therefore upload. so that's why i haven't been posting stuff - as for checking stuff, i've got tons of things due now, so nothing for the next couple of weeks. i have no idea what's happening except for concert dates thanks to yygall ^^ which was a false alarm anyway.
i have some single stuff up - more coming later when i get my stuff together. just a few more weeks of this and i'll be free(ish).
btw, i graduated last Friday - got all dressed up and felt so happy to finally have one degree over and done with =D

sorry, i seem to disappear a lot for long periods of time. i'm sorry that i haven't been in touch with anyone for a while now, but like i said in a previous post, my life hasn't been the best since the second half of 2008, and it's not really getting better. i needed to deal with it on my own, and i'm just starting to put my life back in order.
i hurt my shoulder pretty badly a couple of weeks ago, and i couldn't move without feeling some very extreme pain. breathing was also painful. it was a constant ache and i couldn't move my arm very much so my muscles were also knotted. so i took the opportunity to move away from the computer and do some other things (like read and sleep). not that sleep was forthcoming. i slept very poorly in a chair for a week.
when i went to the hospital the first time, they gave me some painkillers via injection, but the drug that they injected first to counteract the nausea of the painkiller actually made the pain a lot more intense. so that wasn't very fun, crying tears of pain and being unable to move a muscle. the second time, they took an x-ray, which required me to lift my arm above my head (i still can't do that without feeling a pang in my shoulder). more tears of pain ensued. i didn't have a broken bone (thank god), but i did have some very bad inflammation of the cartilage in the shoulder and rib area.
i'm a lot better now, so no sympathetic murmurs on my behalf please. i'd like the pain and drugs (i was taking 3 different painkillers a day) to be a distant memory. besides, i had some fun times during my convalescence - i participated in a scavenger hunt and won a fishing rod and some lures for coming second. pity it was pink and not blue.
so anyway i've now started my masters and i'm trying to turn my brain from mush back into something resembling a cognitive organ. i may or may not return to uploading, but seeing as the list of providers has dried up considerably since i've been away, it remains to be seen. i suppose i should add that you shouldn't demand, plead and beg of me things i don't want to or cannot do, since i detest that kind of behaviour and i've been seeing it quite often lately. i'm more likely to do the opposite of what you request (depending on how much i like/dislike you) contrary person that i am.
...for staying away. but i need the break. it wouldn't be a stretch to say that last year was one of the worst years i've ever had, and it's not over yet.
i remembered about NYCC though, and managed to wade through my neighbourhood to find most of the reports. the one thing that is foremost in my mind is "thank god there was no way i could have gone." why? because i'm just not in the right headspace to deal with the insanity of Arashi fandom right now. and insanity it is. damn it, i don't want to be one of those people that says it was better when it wasn't as popular, but it seems to me that the crazy and the selfish have increased in the last year or so. not to mention the entitlement. OH GOD THE ENTITLEMENT. this is where i insert some rant about how people should expect to work hard for what they can get and be grateful for it.
i doubt i would have been cool and collected if i was seeing Sho in the flesh, but for god's sake, whatever happened to common sense and fangirls sticking together? wtf was up with the chikubi stuff and the crazy uchiwa girl? and finding out about how lady_gemma got her guaranteed tickets was interesting to say the least. not to mention the lead up where there was some bitching about actually going in the first place.
there are rules for a reason, and i'm glad that Sho stayed out of reach in the safety of his glass box (metaphorically as well?). i do not blame the security for doing that at all. you may not have started out pushing or shoving, but eventually it ended up that way. i think that should have been anticipated - not everyone is a gracious and well meaning person, especially if they are within grasp of something they want desperately. the fact that a very limited number of tickets to the premiere were given out must have been disappointing, but that is no excuse for poor behaviour. luckily the number of complaints about that from the fangirls are blissfully few; i doubt the same could be said for the fanboys.
one of the things i love the best about Sho is that he takes all aspects of his job seriously - like Jun. Sho, unlike Jun, doesn't always feel the need to be polite or gracious. blame that on his arrogance or his temper if you like, but i feel that he's justified in being annoyed that one of the first questions he was asked was one of entitlement and not on something that he worked hard on. also, we should respect the rules of JE. in Japan, he wouldn't have been offered a gift in a press conference or Q&A. so it's no surprise that he didn't know how to react appropriately to that. as for humility, doesn't the fact that he was shocked at the turnout speak for itself?
as for the organisation - there is very little awareness in American (Western) society about the popularity of idols and Johnnys. for Japanese entertainment, the focus is still very much on anime and manga, not 芸人 and タレント. the organisers had no idea Sho is so popular because the Arashi fandom is, by-and-large, not an English speaking one. all the online communities for Arashi are rather small compared to ones for American franchises, and we do have a concentration of majime fangirls online - ones that are serious about their fangirling. heck, i'll gladly admit i'm one of them. but i think the organisers would have been focused on, say, the Heroes or Watchmen or even the Torchwood events rather than the Yatterman ones. after all, those are the fandoms that do have some kind of exposure. i'd like to find some reports of those events and compare to them to Sho's appearance, just to see how much difference there is.
on the other hand, Sho doing the furitsuke to A.RA.SHI was very cute. and he looked good. but then, they always look good. the reviews of the movie have gotten me more excited about watching it - i do love a crazy campy movie. i'm not a pop culture snob; after all my biggest obsession is a boy band. and this girl got interviewed for NEWS ZERO (i'm pretty sure that's what it was for). lucky girl. she was fantastic and well behaved about it. karma? i think so.
i know that people are piling on the worst aspects of the event, and this is why we should behave ourselves in public. the bad parts get remembered by the general public, not the good. there's a reason why fangirls have a bad name. and you know what? i'm too serious a person to want to be associated with crazies.
here's a good starting point for reports if you're looking for them, but there's a lot around that's not on that list. like this behind the scenes report.
i'm going to be AWOL for at least another week, so don't expect anything from me ok?
i haven't seen that many movies in the last year, but what i did see were mainly adaptations of existing material such as comics (The Dark Knight) and books (Prince Caspian). or in the case of Indiana Jones, the latest in a franchise.
i always enjoyed the movie adaptations of comic books, no matter how cheesy or bad it may be - this is probably the main reason why i'm really looking forward to Sho in Yatterman. it's the campy and dorky quality of yelling attack names and having silly costumes in real life action. for the record, i really liked the live action series of Sailor Moon too.
it always slightly annoyed me that the females in comic book movies were kind of lacking though. there's nothing i can say that will beat what Thera Pitts has to say in this article: Why the Comic-Book Movie Industry Needs a Female Superhero. i pretty much agreed with everything she says, but i need to add that i don't think a female superhero is necessary in all those movies; it's a strong female character that we need. she doesn't need to have superpowers to be strong (e.g. Rachel Dawes - pity there wasn't more of her). i'm hoping that Silk Spectre in Watchmen will deliver.
this article brings up the point that moviemakers don't believe that female moviegoers exist outside of the chick flick genre. while i do enjoy the occasional chick flick (i think the last one i watched was The Holiday), i think most of the plots and characters are bland and insipid. but hey, bland and insipid is alright once in a while when you turn your mind off. but i will never ever get what is so great about Sex and the City.
and then, this article by Jerk of the Year Josh Tyler, says that female superhero movies will "never work simply because men and women have different interests." uhh. yeah. and that is why they won't get made. because people like him in Hollywood don't believe that women and men can have the same interests. so all the time i've been playing "boy" games (something that involves violence and not cutesy characters) and reading "male-oriented" books (is there such a thing?) kind of disappeared into zero space.
my indignation is shared.
this has possibly got to be the stupidest point he makes: "Ask most women which movies they’re most looking forward to in 2009 and odds are that it’ll be something starring Julia Roberts."
WRONG. MASSIVE FAIL. the movies i'm most looking forward to are Watchmen and Harry Potter. i haven't been anticipating a Julia Roberts movie in... ever (not even Ocean's Eleven). i did like Pretty Woman though. and i'd like to know who the target audience is supposed to be for movies like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Revolutionary Road, Avatar and Veronika Decides to Die, men or women?
another one. "There’s something unintentionally sexist about it, it’s as if we’re saying women’s interests are somehow inherently inferior, and to be validated they must instead find ways to be more like men." noooooo. being sexist is assigning gender roles to an individual. such as interests and hobbies, like what movies we watch. and dictating what people should wear according to their gender. like men can't wear pink coz it's a "girl's" colour. so Arashi are girls going by their Kitto Daijoubu/Love Situation outfits (but i'm sure there are people who say that anyway). btw, it was originally a boy colour because pink is the diminutive of red, a strong colour. (yeah, i have a long standing gripe about the "gayness" of pink.)
at least he makes this point: "Of course some women actually are interested in superheroes, just as there are guys out there who are really into touchy-feely musicals." oh hey, i exist! but i'm weird and unusual and should be exhibited at a comic convention so the nerds can drool over my exposed skin in a scantily clad costume!
concluding: "So go ahead, make more movies about female superheroes. Just don’t make them with an eye towards entertaining women. Make them for men. ... We don’t need more female superhero movies, we need more movies for females."
no, we just need good movies. and these days, superhero movies can be good. so why not a female superhero movie? why can't it be a battle between maintaining her personal life and her secret identity and... wait.
i'm going to read some manga now. and maybe watch some Charmed later.
while i'm uploading Countdown, have some pretty fireworks instead!
we were right next to the bridge, so the fireworks were very close. so close, it was blinding and as bright as day at one point. the theme was creation - and the bridge effect was a kaleidoscope of sun, flower and star.
pics were taken with my dodgy camera phone, but some of them still turned out good ^^
going home was a bitch. it was a sea of people and it took us an hour to traverse the tunnel to get to the train station. and then some hoons broke a train door so there were delays while we were underground where we couldn't contact anyone. i came home at 3.30am. my parents were also in the city - they watched the 9pm family works (which i pretty much missed coz i was making my way back to my friends from work) and my brother went to his friend's place. all in all, it was a good way to start a new year - especially after the difficult year that was 2008.
